Expert Packaging & Label Prepress Services
What Packaging Prepress Covers
Packaging prepress is the stage between approved artwork and the press. The design has to be fitted to a structural dieline, separated for the inks and process on the job, and set up so it prints, cuts, folds and glues exactly as the converter planned.
Unlike commercial print, a packaging file has to work once it is folded, glued or wound onto a roll, not just on the flat sheet. Every format adds its own rules, which is why cartons, labels and flexible packaging are covered separately below.
Where it goes wrong
A packaging file can look right on screen and still fail when it does not match the dieline, substrate or finishing plan. Those are prepress problems, and they can be caught before plates are made.
What We Handle for Packaging & Label Printers
Dieline fit, bleed, and safe zones
Artwork aligned to your converter’s CAD dieline, with every structural line checked. The full checklist is below.
Color separation for CMYK, Pantone, or spot ink
Trapping for print misregistration
Foil, emboss, and varnish layer setup
White ink preparation
Barcode placement and sizing
Gang-run and SKU nesting layouts
Dieline Checks We Run Before Artwork Goes to Press
A dieline is the flat blueprint of the finished package. Every line on it means something different to the press and the die, and each one is a place where artwork can go wrong.
- Cut lines. Artwork follows the die path, with no critical elements riding the knife and no gaps where the die could expose unprinted board.
- Crease and fold lines. Copy, logos and fine detail stay off folds, so nothing breaks across a crease.
- Perforations and tear strips. Graphics and required copy kept clear so opening features do not split text or brand marks.
- Glue areas. Kept free of ink and varnish where the converter specifies, so the glue bonds to bare board.
- Bleed. Background artwork extended past every cut edge by the amount your converter specifies.
- Safe zones. Brand marks, regulatory copy and product names held inside the live area on every panel.
- Knockouts and windows. Foil-free, white-free and window areas cut back exactly where the structure needs them.
- Separate, named layers. Dieline, white, varnish and foil each on their own non-printing or spot layer, so nothing structural ends up on a plate.

Packaging Prepress FAQs
Do you work from our converter's dieline and spec sheet?
Yes. We build to the CAD dieline and specifications you or your converter supply. We do not redraw structure. If the artwork and the dieline disagree, we raise it with you before continuing.
